Sleeping

Callen is not much of a sleeper. He is the type of baby that can make it all day without a nap (if he wants to). He can fight sleep like nobody's business and if he doesn't "want" to go to sleep he won't....there is nothing anyone can do to make him fall asleep. He has a mind of his own and he won't back down. I wonder where he gets that from?!?

Anyways...Callen has not slept a full night in his crib. That is right...he is 7 months old and he has not slept a full night alone. When he was first born he slept in his Moses basket and then in his pack and play (I wasn't ready for him to make the transition into his room)...lesson learned! After he got RSV (see previous post) he got use to sleeping with me or on me. When I was working I kept telling myself that as long as he was sleeping then I was fine with him sleeping on me. Since I had to get up and be functioning for junior high and high school students the next day. I had always told Jason that once school was out for the summer that I would start working on getting him into his own bed. Well...we are into week two of summer vacation and guess who is still sleeping in Jason and I's bed??? Yup, Mr. C.

Why haven't I started the transition of getting him to sleep in his own bed you might ask? Well, I use the excuse of I am now working on VBS stuff...once VBS is over I will start working on getting him to sleep in his room. When really, I think, it is the fact that in the back of my mind I know he is growing up so very fast and I really love him sleeping on me/beside me and I know in a few short months he won't want to cuddle with Mom anymore. Yes, I know I don't get good rest, but Callen does. See how I justify? :)

But, back to the crib business. Callen doesn't seem to like his crib. I don't know what the deal is. A very good friend of mine said that her child didn't sleep in his crib till he was one...he just didn't like it. It has gotten to the point where Callen sleeps on my side of the bed and I sleep on the floor next to the bed. Yes, I know this is crazy...however, it works. He gets good rest and I get pretty good rest on the floor. He is also getting use to sleeping alone. So, you know, maybe my method really is working.

Callen just isn't a sleeper when it comes down to it. Maybe once a week he will take a really good nap..but, most days it is a 45 minute nap every 3 to 4 hours and he is good to go. He also doesn't sleep through the night (still). He usually wakes up 2 times (2:30 and 4:30). How Jason and I got a kid that doesn't like to sleep I have no idea.

Maybe one day I will suck it up and move him to his room, but for now in the Frantz household there is peaceful sleeping as long as C Man sleeps in the big bed.
