This weekend the family loaded up the Explorer and headed south for a little getaway and a family wedding. I'm not going to lie...I was looking forward to the mini-vacation and getting to leave behind Balko life for a few days.
As we all know, Callen does not ride well in the car. I prayed all day that sweeet little C would ride well on the way down to Amarillo. He did excellent. He slept most of the way there and then played and watched a movie the rest of the way. Thank you Lord for the answered prayer! He also did fabulous on the way home, I might add.
We didn't do much on our little getaway. With a baby it is hard to just go, go, go...especially with an evening wedding to attend. We picked up a few things that we needed and then went back to the hotel for Callen a nap and some swim time in the pool. I knew that in order for Callen to make it through a 6:00 p.m. wedding he must get a good nap in...and he did. Again thank you Jesus!
Callen was excellent throughout the wedding...this was his first wedding to go to and I was a little worried he might get a little loud or cranky through the ordeal...however, he was perfect! The wedding was nice and it was so good to see all the family (even though we mostly live 5 miles from each other). It is nice when everyone is together. Good times with great people!
This morning Callen slept in till 9:15...I was pretty pumped about it and it was nice to have a little sleeping in time! Once we got ready we headed to the Amarillo Zoo. I personally love zoos and animals, so I think this visit was more for me than for Callen...but, I think Callen enjoyed it. It is a rather small zoo...nothing like OKC or Ft. Worth Zoo. But, it is very nice and the animals were really within touching distance from you...so, Callen could see them really well. He would try to call them (the lions) and they would just look at him like he was crazy. It was a fun little adventure for our little family.
While we were out and about Callen got to enjoy all types of new foods. He is starting to eat tiny pieces of table food....AND IT DOESN'T CAUSE STOMACH ISSUES LIKE BABY FOOD!!! YAY! He got to try KFC fried chicken (just the chicken, no skin or crust), mashed potatoes, a biscuit, grilled cheese sandwich, bread stick, brisket and a little nibble of wedding cake. He is growing up and eating big kid food (in pieces). I am thankful table food settles well for him, since baby food did not. Maybe we are past the stomach issues in our house.
On another note, school is starting this week for all my teacher friends and past students. I went up last week and cleaned out my room. I cried...it was sad to be leaving a place that I love so much. I am going to miss seeing my teacher friends every single day and seeing my students faces and coming up with things to make class fun. I know my place is at home for right now, and I am so thankful that I am staying home with Callen...it is just kinda a bitter-sweet week for me. Leaving something I love so much, to be with someone I love so much. I know the reward will be GREAT, I will just miss my "grown-up" world. So, if you don't mind...please pray for me that I will get past this feeling of "I have a college degree and not using it/useless feeling and that me staying at home will be rewarding for Callen and our family. I know it will be, just need a reminder. Still not regretting the decision to stay home, just kinda sunk in that I am staying home.
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I will post pictures soon of our little getaway!
