RSV

Well...I deserve the award of Mother of the Year...NOT. Last week Callen was showing signs of a cold or allergies. I thought, since we just got over a cold that it was probably allergies. I convinced myself that it was allergies since it was warming up and the fact that I didn't want to be "that mom" and rush C to the doctor for a little sneeze and cough. So, I gave him his cough syrup from his last cold and thought it would be over in a few days. Well....we went to the doctor Monday morning to get his 4 month shots (can you believe 4 months already???), and when the doctor looked at him he said he is too sick to get his shots and I am going to test him for RSV. Right then, I felt like such a great mother. The sickness that lands babies in the hospital...I thought was just allergies (go me!)! So he took blood from his toe (Callen didn't cry or anything, just laughed the entire time) and then swabbed his nose. And it came back positive for RSV.

So...here we are current day and he is taking 6 breathing treatments a day. I had to buy a nebulizer (so if anyone needs one I have one) and we are currently fogging him 6 times a day for 2 weeks. He does suprisingly well with the breathing treatments. He likes to hold the mouth piece and talk into it. The cat (Henry) is also enjoying the treatments...he usually sits beside him and gets a little "fog" too.

The only real problems with the medicine is that it makes Callen a crazy man...extremely jittery and LOUD. He also starts SCREAMING in his sleep several times a night and nothing I do can make him stop. He doesn't want to eat, rock, anything....he just screams for about 30 minutes and then goes back to sleep. So strange.

I have pictures to showcase this experience and will post later. So, C baby is 4 months old and has been on more than 5 medications in his short life. I told the doctor that we were just blessed with a sick child and he said, "Nah, by the time he is in school he will be fine." I then said that I was a sick child...his response is my favorite. "Well, paybacks are hell." Very true, Dr. Siewert, very true.

So...I will spend my days fogging my child. Lesson learned...be "That MOM!"
