I thought I would do a blog post about Callen's first year of life while I had a chance and Callen was happy playing on the floor. I am writing this to Callen, so there will be personal pronouns used.
Callen will be one tomorrow at officially 6:59 P.M. I can't believe it has already been ONE entire year. Callen has had an amazing first year of life. I will admit at times I really didn't think we would make it through the morning, much less the day; however, we survived. We struggled with tummy issues for most of the first year of your life. You got through it finally around July and I have been eating none stop since. However, baby food never settled well and still doesn't to this day.
You are currently RUNNING (yes, running) everywhere. You have been trying to get the hang of walking since August and finally about two weeks ago you got it completely down. You are one that you are not going to do it until you have it perfect. You would not walk until you knew how to turn and run. You have it all down and you are going everywhere. The cats are freaked out by your ability to MOVE. Wilson (The Blosser's dog) has not seen your ability to move and I imagine he will not be pleased with your quickness come Saturday when we spend the day with one of your favorite families.
You currently have 6 teeth. Four top and two bottom. Usually teething is not a problem with you. However, this last tooth (top left) was a little rough for you. However, Ma (Grandma Sammons, so you call her) was here to help make the teething process easier on you and me.
You still are not sleeping through the night. This is entirely my fault and I take blame for it. I just can't stand to hear you cry. You currently sleep about 2-3 hours in your own bed and then you sleep or toss and turn the rest of night in mom and dad's bed. You take up the majority of the bed so many nights I either sleep on the floor or Dad sleeps on the couch. We are planning on getting you transitioned into your bed alone all night by yourself within the next week.
You like juice. Your favorite is grape juice and harvest blend. You drink 8 oz a day from a sippy cup. You like water or anything else in a cup. You will not take a bottle AT ALL. You broke yourself of this in May. You are still nursing. Not much during the day. About 3 times from the time you wake up till you go to bed. However, at night it is your comfort. I think it will be hard to break you. We are looking at the calendar for a good time to break you of this habit.
You have a heck of a temper. And you can "fly off the handle bars" pretty quickly; however, you are over it just as fast.
You currently love making noises. You can blubber with your mouth and you like to try and give raspberries to any and everyone when they are laying on the floor and you can get to their belly. You also love someone putting their hand over your mouth so you can "ahh, ahh, ahh," you also make the noise of cars when you are acting like you are driving mom and dad's car, driving your outside cars or 4-wheeler, riding in your wagon, or pushing anything with wheels. You also love music and will dance as soon as you hear music. You dance at church, when it's playing the car, on TV or your toys. You have moves my child.
You also love books. You have your favorites and we read them often. Your favorite ones are about animals. You also love TV and have your favorite shows that you like to watch (Mickey Mouse, Handy Manny, Backyardigans, Yo Gabba Gabba, Sesame Street (just over the past few weeks), Olivia, Wow Wow Wubbzy, Chuggington, and the music of Jack and the Neverland Pirates).
You love to play with anything that has music, anything you can push, balls and your ball popper machine...really you play really well with all your toys. You love getting into cabinets and drawers and dragging stuff out. You find the strangest things (rubber bands, tooth brushes) that you like to play with. You also love to play with animals. You love animals. Especially cats. You can call the cats and you can call the dog (Bear) by name. You also love balloons and say BA when you see one. You also LOVE bubbles. You also like trying to scare people by sneaking up on them and saying ahh. It is funny.
You love taking baths and can take several a day. You love to suck on the wash cloths or try and turn the shower on. You love to swim or try to in the tub.
You love wrestling with Daddy and you look forward to him getting home from work so you can wrestle and chase death.
You are a big Mommy's boy. But, you are really great around everyone. You go to anyone, but if you are sleepy or fussy you want your mom-ma.
You can say several words. Mom-ma, Be-ar, Da, Ma, Ba (for balloon), Ahhh-Ahh (for calling kitties), bye and maybe a few more. We are working on ONE and holding up your finger. You are kinda getting it.
You take pretty good naps during the day. Usually 1.5-2 hrs. I rock you to sleep for your naps and for night time. You love to be rocked and sung too. We sing Over in the Meadow, Wheels on the Bus, Jesus Loves Me, Jesus Love the Little Children, Go Tell it on the Mountain, and Amazing Grace.
You really don't have a day schedule yet. You wake up anywhere from 7-9 depending on when you get to bed the night before. You usually play for an hour after getting up, eat breakfast (you love eggs), play for another hour, take a good nap, eat lunch, play for a few hours, and maybe take another nap, then dad gets home and you wrestle with him, eat dinner, take a bath, a go to sleep or play. You usually go to sleep around 7:30 or 8, but you stay up late (10:30) sometimes if you get a second wind before we can get you down.
Your favorite foods are green beans, dum dum suckers, mixed veggies, corn on cob, blueberries, speghetti-o's, eggs, jelly, chicken nuggets, fries, vanilla wafers and milk, yogurt, mac and cheese and grilled cheese. You don't have a huge sweet tooth and you aren' a fan of the texture of meat. You love fruit and veggies and would take that over anything (even birthday cake).
You love being outside. We didn't get to be out much this summer like we had planned due to the high temps that just wouldn't go away. Hottest summer Oklahoma has ever seen. We are currently enjoying being outside with the fall temps. You love playing in the sandbox, driving your cars, and playing on the deck. You also loving throwing Bear's toy and petting the horses in the field behind the house.
You have one little friend, Halle. She is two and you love playing with her. Your other friends are all teens in the community. You love going to youth group and seeing all the kids and they love playing with you. You think you are one of them and you love watching them and playing with them. You love cheering and dancing them on at their football and basketball games. You also have great cousins and a girlfriend (Josie) that you love to pieces.
You love to climb. You climb the couches and Ma's stairs and you like to crawl down off of stuff. You also love putting stuff up. We feed the cats every morning and you love putting their cat food back in the container that it came from, you can spend hours doing that. You are also good about putting toys up. Even though it isn't required yet.
We go to the doctor on Tuesday for your official one year check-up. We think you are about 24 lbs and 33 in. long. We will see.
We have been blessed by you Mr. C and we love you so much and are amazed at the little guy you are becoming. We can't wait for the years and days to come. You are so much fun and we just fall in love more and more with you every single day. There is nothing better than seeing you laugh, seeing that smile every morning, or watching you grow and go.
Happy Birthday C-Baby. Mom-ma loves you oh so much!
